Kinloss School is a small school specifically for boys of good intelligence but with dyslexic learning difficulties. We are not able to accept boys of low ability, nor those whose difficulties are not of a dyslexia nature.
We are a small school with a total roll of under seventy. We have a staff ratio of better than 1 to 4 which enables us to keep our classes to a maximum of eight in number and to give each boy a programme of individual tuition from specialist staff.
All boys take GCSE examinations from the wide range of subjects that we offer and we seek no exemptions from the national curriculum. Among the excellent facilities available in the classrooms are 17 computers, including an 8 station Nimbus Research Machine network and 24 word processors. A new purpose-built 5-room Art/Design Centre was opened in September 1991.
Our high staff/pupil ratio enables us to offer a wide range of activities outside the classroom as well as in. We are fully involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and have a wide-ranging programme of weekend activities.
As a boarding community we are able to take the 'whole school' approach to the boys' welfare and the same care and expert guidance which is given in lessons is also extended to the social and community activities of Kinloss.
Bright boys with learning difficulties thrive and achieve success if provided with a pleasant, stress-free but stimulating environment and this is our aim at Kinloss. Kinloss School is registered with the Department for Education and is one of only seven schools listed by the Department under the Education Act 1981 as suitable for boys with dyslexic learning difficulties. This is particularly useful for parents seeking to have their sons 'statemented'. We are also in membership of CRESTED, the independent body for the inspection and registering of schools offering specialist facilities for dyslexic youngsters.
